Special Services
At Congregation B’nai Tzedek, festival and other special observances are held throughout the year in services that reflect the joy and reverence of the season. All of our services are listed on the CBT calendar. The following are highlights of some of them:
On Simchat Torah, we consecrate children starting their first year in our Religious School. The new Kindergartners receive the Rabbi’s blessing as they stand under a tallit (prayer shawl) held aloft by students from the Confirmation class. It is a most memorable moment for the young ones, their families, and the entire Congregation.
Each November, Congregation B’nai Tzedek joins with congregations of other faiths for an interdenominational Service of Thanksgiving. This tradition has long been part of B’nai Tzedek’s commitment to fostering community. Watch for information in October/November regarding the date and location for this service.
Purim brings special revelry as the Megillah of Esther is read and the Congregation is treated to the annual Purimspiel. This musical production features a romp of zany characters (played by congregants) with King Ashueras’s (Rabbi Einstein, of course!) in the land of Shushan!
Each year, in cooperation with the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County, Rabbi Einstein leads a special daytime Alzheimer’s Service for individuals suffering from the disease and their families. This service is usually held in the Fall. Contact the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County (AAOC or 714 283-1111) for further details.
Yizkor services are held on Yom Kippur afternoon and at the conclusion of Pesach (7th day Passover) at 7:45pm. All the Yahrzeit lights on the Memorial Board are lit for this solemn service.
Our tenth grade Confirmation class leads a unique and memorable service on Shavout, at 7:00pm, culminating their year of in-depth study and preparation. The service begins in candlelight, and ends with celebration as these remarkable young men and women receive the Rabbi’s blessing. Following the Oneg, congregants join Rabbi Einstein for a Tikkun Leil Shavuot. This late night study of Torah, which concludes just after midnight, emulates the custom of staying up the entire night (leil) of Shavuot studying with the community in order to re-experience standing at Sinai.
We welcome you to pray, learn, and celebrate with us!
