Cantor Linda Ecker earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and a Master’s Degree from California State University at Fullerton . She received her cantorial training through the University of Judaism and received her certification from Hebrew Union College , School of Sacred Music and the American Conference of Cantors.
Cantor Ecker, a native of Brooklyn, New York, moved to California in 1959 and grew up at Temple Beth Emet in Anaheim . In addition to being the first female cantor in Orange County , she was a 1994 honoree of the Orange County Bureau of Jewish Education for her services in furthering Jewish Education. In 1998, she was honored by Congregation B’nai Tzedek for her thirteen years of dedication. In 1999 Cantor Ecker and her family were honored by the Orange County Jewish Family Service.
Cantor Ecker is an active life member of the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE) and has served on its national board. She was co-chair for the National American Conference of Cantors/Guild of Temple Musicians convention, which was held in Los Angeles in June 2000. She currently serves as an officer on the American Conference of Cantors Executive Board. She is also the American Conference of Cantors Certification Chair overseeing the program and its annual testing.
Cantor Ecker and her husband, Marc, live in Fountain Valley where they attempt to orchestrate the lives of their children, Jacqueline and Ian, Michael and Ashley, and Molly. They have been blessed with a grandchild, Drayson Isaiah Jaffee.
