House of Study - Adult Programs
Adult B'nai Mitzvah Program

The Adult B'nai Mitzvah Program is a personalized and spiritually fulfilling experience offered for members of B'nai Tzedek. Participants in this program strengthen their love and understanding Judaism in a structured program of study, practice, and introspection.

The program of study is geared toward the person who:

  • did not have the opportunity to study Judaism very much as child and wants to learn more now, or

  • grew up in a Jewish environment but was not able to participate in a Bat/Bat Mitzvah ceremony for any number of reasons, or

  • recently converted to Judaism, or

  • has had a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony but would like to renew the experience as an adult, or

  • has a child or grandchild who will soon become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and would like to fulfill a longtime dream to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah also

Participants in the program will have the opportunity to fulfill the B'nai Mitzvah requirements with classroom study, independent study, holiday observances, spiritual journalling, and other experiences of their own choosing (earning credits - "Mogen Davids" - along the way).

The program is anticipated to take about two years for each person and culminate in an individual or group (your choice) Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony. You can also opt for no ceremony even if you have completed your course of Jewish learning. It is possible to start the program at any time.

So how do you get started?
Because this is such an individualized program, it is important that the path of learning you take be tailored according to your background, previous study, and ultimate goals. A meeting with the Rabbi to develop your own personal B'nai Mitzvah plan is recommended.

Rabbi Einstein will serve as your Advisor and coach to help you select what courses and other experiences might best meet your needs and personal goals, and to help you map out your path to your Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Take a look at the schedule of Adult Education classes being offered this year and compare them to your current level of knowledge and skills and your own personal needs and interests.

E-mail Rabbi Einstein to set up an appointment, or contact the synagogue office for more information and to have an Adult B'nai Mitzvah Packet of Information sent to you.
