CBT’s Team Chai 2005 raises over $26,500!

Team Captains Pam Rosen and Robin Einstein with CBT Banner

Team Chai raised over $26,500 for the American Cancer Society’s second annual Fountain Valley Relay for Life held on June 4 to June 5, 2005. Robin Einstein and Pam Rosen co-captained a team of 41 members, many of whom spent the entire 24 hours at the Relay. An additional 30-40 shul members and supporters stopped by the campsite to cheer our walkers on. At least 2 Team Chai members were on the track at all times during the Relay. Shabbat was observed with a S’udah Sh’lishit and a brief Mincha service, and ended with Havdalah. Both services were led by Cantor Ecker. On his way to the airport for an out-of-twon wedding, Rabbi Einstein stopped by the campsite after Shacharit services and walked a few laps.

Hilary and Ashley Serota, members of this year’s Confirmation Class as well as the Fountain Valley High School American Cancer Society Team, also participated in the Relay. Their parents, Sandra and Larry Serota, were on Team Chai. Ron Sobelman, owner of Coffee Plantation, had his portable trailer at the Relay site and donated 50% of his proceeds to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund in memory of Heidi Grumet.

Team Chai member Karen Sturm, who raised $3700, won the award for “Most Money Raised by an Individual.” Team Chai won the award for “Most Money Raised by a Team” and also won the award for “Best Decorated Campsite.” The campsite’s theme was Early Detection Saves Lives, and had information and materials relating to early detection of retinoblastoma (pediatric eye cancer) and colorectal cancer. In addition, the campsite was decorated with the names of honored loved ones – those who have lost their battle with cancer and those who have survived.

For those of you interested in participating in the 2006 Relay or would like to receive information about the Relay, contact Robin Einstein or Pam Rosen.
